Joseph M. Reid is a Project Manager for IS Architecture, where he provides as-built documentation, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases for custom residences, residential remodels, and historic preservation projects.  He is experienced in researching and implementing national and local code requirements, and processing projects through local governing agencies.

Mr. Reid is currently working closely with many clients throughout San Diego who wish to expand their homes to meet their family’s needs.  He has just completed managing the design and construction administration of a large scale residential remodel of a 1970s modern post and beam home located in La Jolla , originally designed by a local San Diego architect.  This remodel doubled the square footage of this residence to 7,000 square feet.  He has had the opportunity to work on several large and small residential projects in Del Mar, La Jolla , Point Loma, Ocean Beach , Mission Hills, and Golden Hill.  He and the Principal Architect over saw the construction administration of a 10,000 square foot Italian Villa in Point Loma, and had the pleasure of designing all the ironwork for this home.  Mr. Reid also designed and managed an interior remodel, for another home in Point Loma, of a new kitchen and family room in a stunning Colonial Revival home overlooking the harbor.  He is now working on the design of the same client’s new Master Suite and Media Room.

Facilitating historic preservation projects is another role Mr. Reid takes on at IS Architecture.  He is currently assisting a group of psychologists to convert an 1890s Queen Ann Victorian home for their use as an office.  He is working closely with the consultants and the local governing agency using the California Historical Building Code to update the structure while preserving its historical integrity.  Mr. Reid has written a Historic Structures Report for the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department for a structure located in Old Town San Diego, known as the Verna House.  The Verna House is a small Folk Victorian home, which was built in the late 1880s downtown, and had been relocated to Old Town 30 years ago, and now serves as the Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO) gift shop.  He has contributed to the research and investigation of its existing conditions and its construction techniques.  The report addresses its current condition and acts as a guide to preserve its historical integrity for any future renovations or other work to be done to the structure.  Mr. Reid also supported in the as-built documentation of Casa De Bandini (1820s) in Old Town , and two adobe structures in San Diego County .  The as-builts entailed detailed notes, measurement, graphic details of the construction, and extensive photographing.

Mr. Reid started in the architectural field at Kaufman & Broad, the largest homebuilder in the United States , as a draftsman.  There he began learning the residential side of architecture.  His work included drafting all floor plans and elevation graphics to be used for all model home brochures.  He was a key player in the Design Development staff aiding in designing more efficient homes, and was part of a team who oversaw the construction documents for several housing developments being built in the state of Colorado .

He also had the experience of working in an architectural firm in Oceanside California specializing in small-scale work, including tenant improvements and the occasional residential projects.  He was their senior draftsman, and had the opportunity to help manage a 3,500 square foot, three-unit condominium project located on the beach in Carlsbad .  Mr. Reid also worked on several projects involved with ADA , designing disabled accessible rooms, bathrooms and walkways.
