Classic Ranch     Before and After

Before: Built in the 1940s, this home began as a garden-variety ranch. Despite a great suburban location, it sat on the market for more than a year; most potential buyers saw the bland exterior and never bothered to look inside.

After: Architect Ione R. Stiegler did look inside. She saw that a larger entrance was in order, as well as a minor rework of the floor plan to change traffice flow. Up front, a new attached garage eliminates the need for a yard-eating driveway. A front porch with tapered columns gives the home Craftsman Era appeal. Cedar shake shingles, divided-light windows, and crisp white trim draw teh attention of passersby.
